MAY BE CHILDREN'S DAY IS NOT JUST FOR CHILDREN

"Contrary to the impression created by some interested persons, we have worked together as lifelong friends and colleagues, adjusting ourselves to each other’s point of view as the occasion demanded, and valuing each other’s advice as only those who have confidence in each other can."

Sadly, the "interested persons" that Patel mentioned in a letter to Nehru on his birthday in 1949 still live on. Coincidentally, many of those interested persons believe in the ideologies of hatred that Patel stood against. In his letters to Hindu right wing organizations post Gandhi's assassination, he noted that "it was not necessary to spread poison in order to enthuse the Hindus and organise for their protection." Ironically he went on to call them "anti-national".

In spite of the commendable job that they did or continue to do otherwise, it was not just the Hindu right wing organizations that trod the path of hatred. Many Muslim and other religious organizations were built on hatred too. Many Dravidian organizations today continue to be built on hatred, hatred towards the Brahmins. It's not difficult to interpret that this hatred is not about religion, it's not about caste, but this hatred is deep-rooted.

Pakistan vs India: India
North India vs South India: South India
Karnataka vs Andhra: Karnataka
North Karnataka vs South Karnataka: South Karnatka
Mysuru vs Bengaluru: Bengaluru
Indiranagar vs Jayanagar: Jayanagar
Door #8 vs Door #9: Door #9

No, that is not my house. But isn't this how we look at the world today? I will love you as long as you are part of my "we", else I hate you. It was this hatred that leaders like Patel, Nehru and Gandhi opposed. Today, sadly they are either hijacked or abused!

On this Children's day, may be it's time not just for children to celebrate, but for the children in us to introspect!
